Arthur Griffiths 1928 – 2016
A J. Griffiths, born in 1928. Studied at Wolverhampton college of art. Between 1945-9 he worked at Crown Pottery, Cornwall, making domestic ware for Harry Davis, and in Germany, making Bau Keramik (architectural ceramics). From 1953-4 he worked at the leach pottery in St.Ives.
He was head of the ceramics department at Loughborough College of Art from 1954 to 1983, retiring in 1983 in order to concentrate on his own studio work. He produces large hand-built stoneware items for both indoor and outdoor use. His work is fired in an oil-fired trolley hearth kiln of his own design.
